I spent 5 months in Gothenburg, Sweden at the Göteborgsoperan with Alexander Ekman, assisting in the creation of Ekman’s newest work, Hammer.
I was involved in the dramaturgical and visual development of the ballet, I co-managed the costuming of 28 dancers, and the production of sets and props.
Hammer premiered in Oct 2022 for a four week sold out (2,000 seats/night) run. The piece has subsequently traveled throughout Europe.
I documented the months long process on my blog.
In April of 2023 I cold called pitched The Metropolitan Opera (NYC) on a marketing strategy and a series of events in NYC promoting The MET’s first production of Anthony Davis’ X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X.
They hired me.
I creative directed a zine composed of sections of the opera’s libretto and images of Harlem shot by Jamel Shabazz. 5,000 copies were distributed through Black owned businesses, faith based communities, and on the street.
I produced events on behalf of The MET with The Shabazz Center, The Paris Review, and National Saw Dust.
The MET and I hosted an 18-hour reading of Alex Haley’s entire The Autobiography of Malcolm X: As Told to Alex Haley. I took a portrait of each of our readers.
Over the course of four years I have produced four operettas with the artist MUR: Children of the Earth (2021), Wonders of the Water (2022), Angels of the Air/Salamanders of the Fire (2023), G (2024). All productions were in NYC, each ran 4 nights to sold out houses.
I helped raise $90K for the productions, I collaborated creatively with MUR on costumes, scenic design and marketing.
